The things I love about Asheville, Swannanoa and Black Mountain. . .Diversity - In addition to North Carolina natives, the area has a significant population that hail from other states. People with diverse interests and backgrounds. Topographic diversity - mountains, waterfalls, forests and farms. Great for everything from hiking to berry picking. The area encourages hobby/craft participation. Classes are offered in just about every imaginable interest from metal working to fine arts. The mountains cry out for hikers and the Blue Ridge Parkway attracts leafers and bikers.
Our favorite restaurants in the area are the Morning Glory and Ole Gucomoles in Black Mountain and Pomodora and Panera Bread in Asheville. Ingles is the closest grocery store. It is about 7 minutes from the house. Earth Fare is located in Ashevile. Black Mountain has a speciality shop with organic meats, wines and cheeses.
Why we bought our house. . .The house has a wonderful open floor plan. It has a big, bold 17' window that overlooks the wooded back yard. Hardwood floors, granite counters. A cozy upstairs den perfect for reading or watching television. Plenty of storage and room for guests and hobbies. The neighborhood is rolling, wooded, quiet and located between Asheville and Black Mountain.
A few other things that I can mention. . .We are located minutes from the Asheville Christian Academy, which has a great reputation. We enjoy visiting wineries in the area, trying local beers, quilting, knitting, working out at Cheshire Fitness Center, yoga, hiking, reading on our front or back porch while watching the humming birds, flower gardening and motorcycling or driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Our neighborhood is great. It is situated just minutes from Asheville and Black Mountain. If hiking is your thing you could hike from your front door to the trails at Warren Wilson or Owen Park. If you like to shop we're just minutes from Asheville Mall, downtown Asheville or the cute shops of Black Mountain.
Our utility costs are very reasonable. The four zones of the heating/cooling system affords great control of those areas we may not use at all times. The utility billing is as follows:
Electric
2012- $987.84
2011- $780.08
Water/Sewer
2012- $500.17
Propane
Avg 200 gal/yr @$2.45/gal"

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains at 2800 feet, Waynesville, North Carolina, is an interesting, warm and friendly place with a moderate year round temperature and breathtakingly beautiful views. A restored downtown offers retail and specialty shops featuring unique clothing, antiques, baked goods for man and beast, local and regional arts and crafts, and places to get lunch or dinner or a creamy ice cream at the end of the day. Professional offices, churches, and governmental agencies make a well rounded environment. With small businesses, Walmart, Michaels, and others nearby, everything in the town is just a short drive away.
Downtown Waynesville provides a variety of great places for enjoying breakfast, lunch and dinner including Thai Spice...The Gateway Club...Sweet Onion...Nicos...The Copper Leaf...The Coffee Cup...Panacea. Many superior spots are also available nearby in Asheville, especially... Apollo Flame.

Ingles, Food Lion, Bi-Lo , Grocery Outlet and Super Walmart as well as several convenience stores and roadside markets provide a large variety of groceries and produce for Waynesville. In addition to traditional stores, Farmer Tailgate markets featuring locally produced goods and locally grown produce are also held twice a week.
We were drawn to 158 Wilderness Trail because:
It was at the end of the subdivision on a quiet road
It was a chalet style home
It had an awesome stacked stone fireplace
We could enjoy all of the beautiful seasons, with full Winter views of the valley
We had a cleared front lawn with forest on either side
Neighbors were not far away yet there was privacy for our house
Paved Road, maintained year round
Waynesville is perfectly located in Western North Carolina. Protected by surrounding mountains, the seasons experience beautiful Falls, incredible Springs, cool Summers and moderate snowfall in the Winter. The demeanor of the town is peaceful and leisurely with a wide variety of interesting things to see and do. Although you feel like you are"away from it all" you are just minutes away from I-40 and forty-five minutes from Asheville International Airport. In three hours you can be in Atlanta for a sporting event or play. If you don't want to rock on your deck, you have a huge amount of other things to do!
Public schools are rated as good as are home schooling organizations that support parents and offer supplementary classes for home schooled students. In addition to local schools, Western Carolina University, Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College and Haywood Community College are within a short drive of Waynesville and classes are offered to the community.
In no particular order we love...Having a good selection of restaurants and eating out...warming ourselves by the fire when it snows (making snow cream and hot chocolate, too)...Having a great variety of hiking and other adventures at our fingertips...Having an Easter egg hunt in the woods as the daffodils unfurl their splendor...Listening to the nearby stream in the Spring...watching the forest "leaf out"...Taking short "Road Trips" out 209 or 276 or to Sylva or Franklin or Asheville to spend the day, shop and have lunch or dinner.
From the magnificent Blue Ridge Parkway to street festivals with local artists fare, Waynesville has a wide range of opportunities to spend spare time and indulge your interests and hobbies. Hiking, fishing, golfing, horseback riding, shopping, working out at two fitness centers, swimming, taking art classes, skiing, and community and professional craft classes are all within a few minutes of 158 Wilderness Trail.
158 Wilderness Trail is one of the 47 restricted lots within Evergreen Farm. Concerns for these lots are managed by the self-governing Evergreen Farm Home Owners Association (EFHOA). EFOHA takes care of road concerns, collection of dues, keeping members informed about community news, and election of officers at the annual meeting. Members try to assist each other in times of need.
Although the house has not been occupied full time since its purchase in 2007, basic costs from Haywood Electric Membership Corporation have averaged $53.00 per month. Basic water rates from the town of Clyde average $35.00 monthly. Propane use for fireplace logs and basement heating wall unit are seasonal.

The thing we love about Black Mountain is the quaint downtown with all the different shops and the great restaurants. They have a 4th of July parade and a fun Christmas festival. Also you can be hiking in just a few minutes - the beauty is breathtaking.
We love to eat Mexican food at Ole' Guacamoles. Other favorites include Dark City Deli and Mac's for burgers. We shop at Ingles grocery, which is located right across the street. It is the biggest grocery store in the area and they have everything we are looking for.
When we bought the property we loved the quietness and the privacy. It is surrounded by trees and we have only one house on our street. The house has many windows to enjoy all the great views. We love our deck for meals and BBQ. The floors are Canadian cherry and are beautiful. The basement is a favorite hangout to play games or watch TV.
The Black Mountain area is such friendly place. The quality of life is fantastic. Slow paced with many activities to choose from.
The school system is very good with many caring teachers. We love the natural beauty, great restaurants and friendly people.
We enjoy hiking and biking, which you can do right out your door. Montreat is close by which has some of the best hiking in western NC.
Our neighborhood is great because we are secluded and it is very quiet. The area is fun to go walking and everybody is so friendly. You can walk to town or to restaurants close by.
Our utility costs are better than we have experienced in other areas we lived in. The winters are not extreme and the summers are mild. Progress Energy for electric and PSNC for gas.
