The things we love about Arden and Asheville are many.  We love the variety that downtown Asheville has to offer including unique shops, restaurants and cultural activities.  We love the abundance of ways to enjoy the beauty of the mountains of Western North Carolina.  We enjoy the culture of the area including the bluegrass music, folk dancing, local festivals and events. 

We love the variety of independent restaurants and breweries. We love to eat at Papa's and Beer, Apollo Flame Bistro, Brixx Wood-Fired Pizza, and Neo Burrito. Grocery stores are close to home, including one of the newest and nicest Ingles stores in the area, in Mills River. We are also close to Harris Teeter, Fresh Market and Earth Fare. 

When we bought the property we we drawn to the beauty of the area, the balance of feeling as though we are "getting away from it all", yet having easy access to town.  We have enjoyed watching the sunrises and sunsets over the mountains from our deck and hearing the sounds of nature around us.  We we drawn to all of the beautiful details this home has to offer.  

We were immediately charmed by the large stone fireplaces in the dining area and the great room, the wide-plank wood floors, the natural stone tile and granite countertops found throughout the bathrooms and mudroom. The kitchen with its cherry cabinets, farmhouse sink, granite countertops and island is beautiful, functional, and allows for easy entertaining. The multiple porches and deck are great for relaxing, as is the claw foot soaking tub in the master bathroom.

The Arden/Mills River area is pastoral with great mountain views and friendly people. Another thing I can mention is the wonderful public elementary school. Glenn Marlow Elementary is amazing!  They received an A grade on their school report card which is quite an accomplishment. The teachers and administration are passionate about education. 

We like many different activities including running and enjoying the gardens at the NC Arboretum (10 minutes away), mountain biking at Bent Creek Experimental Forest, hiking at Dupont State Forest, taking a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and stopping to take a hike and enjoy the views, canoeing and kayaking on the French Broad River.

Our neighbors are friendly and always willing to lend a hand. Our utility costs are better than we expected for a house of this size.  There are three separate heat pumps that supply the different levels of the house, allowing you to conserve energy when not using a certain area of the house.  Duke Energy is the electric company.  The house uses well water, so we save on costs there as well.  The abundance of windows and ceiling fans also allows for saving on air conditioning costs on all but the hottest days in summer.
