'Seller Says'
We love that Asheville is a "Foodie" town, with many excellent restaurants, "artsy", with many art galleries, locally made crafts, Southern Highland Craft Guild, unique shops, mountains surround town with beautiful view and spectacular sunsets which can be seen when coming home.
Our neighborhood is very eclectic, with neighbors who have lived here for 40 plus years, as well as folks new to town from all over the country. Good Montford Association, helps protect uniqueness of neighborhood without imposing rules/regulations, association is voluntary with no fees. Great walking neighborhood, friendly. Annual Montford Street Party.
Restuarant (Nine Mile) right across the street is great. So convenient to run across and get take out, or eat there and not have to drive after drinking! Too many other great restaurants to list - a "foodie town".
There are four grocery stores within 2 miles, including Trader Joe's, Green Life and Harris Teeter. Can walk to downtown easily, which has many wonderful restaurants and shops.
Biltmore Estate is a short 3-4 miles away. Reasonable prices for season prices. Thirty minutes get you into the mountains for hiking, picnics, and outdoor activities.
We were drawn to this property because of the beautiful historic district, historic house with mix of Victorian and Craftsman styles. Unique, as only "Charleston type" house in town with upstairs and downstairs front porches. Original heart of pine floors, doors, frames and baseboards. Original oak mantel (4 fireplaces in house) and wainscoting.
History of house - Home was scheduled for demolition by city after neighborhood went through a period of significant decline. Local attorney bought the home, apparently at the last minute, and saved it from destruction. He made major repairs required for the home to be livable and to code, and turned it into 2 apartments. Home still 2 apartments when bought by Bill Mills. He and his wife converted home back to a single family and spent many hours
re-plastering walls, stripping and refinishing woodwork, restoring house back to its original state in many respects.
We love living in the historic district and having an easy walk to downtown. Can be any where in Asheville in about 15 minutes. Blue Ridge Parkway goes through town, can be on hiking trails here within 10 minutes, "Four seasons", with winters not generally severe.
One of our hobbies are quilting, hiking and weight lifting. Large quilters guild, good selection of shops. Quilting very popular in area with many resources. You can be in the wilderness in 30 minutes for hiking and backpacking. There are 2 YMCA locations within 3 miles or less.
