"Seller Says"
This property in Haywood County mountains, at the foot of Mt. Pisgah, has great views of the Pigeon River and mountains, is a peaceful place to spend a weekend, longer period or a lifetime. Waynesville, a town about 15 minutes away, has shops, restaurants, art shops and is the seat of government for the area.
For a family, couple or individual moving to the area, there are several good restaurants in the Waynesville area. Since my sisters and I don't live in Canton/Cruso full-time, our goal each time we are there is to find a new restaurant in Waynesville each time we visit... Elks Club, Blue Rooster, Bocelli's, Waynesville Inn and Golf Resort, Sweet Onion, Haywood Smokehouse, Frog Level Brewing, the Swag, Tipping Point Tavern (great soups and salads).
Several businesses are close by for "quick shopping", gas, hardware at Frank's Grocery and Hometown Hardware. Regional Ingles markets in Canton and Waynesville provide a broad range of food and specialty choices.
In the early 1900's our great-great grandfather acquired 18 acres adjoining what would become the National Park Service and Pisgah National Forest. Farming and logging was prevalent. He and his children along with my grandmother's family, worked with the Vanderbilt family on Mt. Pisgah to build the Cradle of Forestry and lodge used by George Vanderbilt (Biltmore House) for hunting and retreat at the top of Mt. Pisgah. The forest service acquired a portion of the land and today the total parcel is 12.47 acres, with evergreen and hardwoods on mountainside, rolling land for building sites and an improved home site with landscaping and rock walls built by our father, a teacher and recognized rock/brick mason in the area. My sisters and I spent many periods in summer, holidays and other special times with our grandparents and parents on the property.
We love the peacefulness of the mountain area, the beauty of the scenery and the retreat setting offers a four-season living opportunity.
Many people have come to the Cruso area to live in campgrounds part-time and choose to live full-time.
My family (parents and grandparents) enjoyed gardening, fishing and laid-back days grilling and cooking.
Visitors and part-time residents are drawn to the area for camping, hiking, golf and retreat setting at the base of Mt. Pisgah and the Pigeon River area. Since my teenage years, I played golf at the nearby Springdale 18-hole golf course.
The neighborhood in East Fork has campgrounds, a fire and rescue department within 1/4 miles, a golf course and restaurant, a ranch with lodging, good neighbors, a community center and churches nearby. Duke Life Point owned hospital, Haywood Regional, is nearby with emergency services, and many good physicians.
For Utilities, Haywood Electric is a membership coop, providing electric service to the Haywood County area. Costs are average. Waynesville Gas provides propane service. Greene Brothers Well and Pump provide water testing, well installation and service. Plumbing services have most recently been provided by David Grasty Plumbing/Waynesville. There are several independent contractors who live in the area that can provide repair, handyman, painting and miscellaneous services. Lawn and leaf service has been provided by David Raulerson/Cruso Lawnranger.
