There are too many fabulous restaurants in Asheville to mention. A few of our favorites include Fig Bistro, Limones, 12 Bones, The Grove Park Inn, Chestnut, Hana and Pack's Tavern. If you are a "foodie", Weaverville and Asheville will make you think you have gone to culinary heaven.  Grocery stores are plentiful enough to give you choices. Weaverville just got a new Publix grocery store. You also have an Ingles. If you choose to go into Asheville, there is a Harris Teeter on Merrimon Avenue before you get into downtown Asheville. Another great thing about Weaverville is that you have all the conveniences of a larger city or town within an easy drive. If you want to drive into Asheville you can, but you do not need to in order to do all your shopping. Weaverville has a Lowe's, a Wal-Mart, several pharmacies, physicians, vets and numerous specialty shops.  The most important aspect of Ivy Meadows for us was the view. We loved the long range western view from the back porch of 118 Ivy Meadows. We then fell in love with friendly, quiet, cul-de-sac neighborhood. Finally, it is in the North Buncombe school district. Our son graduated from North Buncombe High School and had a wonderful and enriching high school experience, which prepared him well for college.  Asheville is one of the most vibrant, friendly and beautiful places in all of North Carolina. The climate is perfect for those seeking four distinct seasons. Outdoor activities are everywhere, from hiking to biking, fishing and sightseeing. The surrounding mountains provide ever-changing vistas that will enrich your life. To see for yourself, take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway in mid-October. Visual arts, musical arts and culinary arts are everywhere. The Asheville area provides ample opportunity for healthy living. The farm to table movement, alternative medicine and the promotion of wellness are important aspects of Asheville culture. In short, the Asheville area is good for your mind, good for your body and good for your soul.  We also liked the fact that Weaverville was far enough from Asheville to be quiet and less fast-paced, but close enough to Asheville that we could enjoy the excitement of an urban setting. It truly is the best of both worlds.  My wife and I are both musicians. We loved the vibrant music scene in Weaverville, Asheville and throughout the surrounding area. The music offerings are not limited to one style or genre. You can find rock, country, old time, bluegrass, classical and jazz on any given night. The variety is not just stylistic, it is also evident in the types of venue, which range from the Diana Wortham Theater and the Civic Center, to open mic nights and singer-songwriters in cozy restaurants. The Orange Peel and The Grey Eagle bring in nationally known musical acts on a regular basis. If you are a hiker, you can access wonderful hiking trail like the Rattlesnake Lodge Trail off of Ox Creek Road in Weaverville. The Center for Creative Retirement at UNC-Asheville provides a outlet for continuing learning, seminars and entertainment. In the Asheville area, you don't have to stop growing, learning and experiencing new things. In fact, Asheville is the perfect place to get involved, try something different or learning something new.  One of the reasons we fell in loved with Ivy Meadows is because it is a great neighborhood for both families and retirees. The neighbors are friendly and welcoming. The fact that we were on a cul-de-sac meant no annoying through traffic. The neighborhood is great for walking as well as sitting on a porch and watching the sun set over the western mountains. Our dogs loved walking around the neighborhood and down to the Ivy Creek. Ivy Creek is a stocked trout stream perfect for fly fishing. Ivy Meadows is a safe, peaceful and friendly place to live.  Our power came from French Broad Electrical Coop and averaged $210 per month. We got propane for the fireplace and stove from Suburban Propane and averaged $500 per year. Waste Pro picked up our trash and recycling and cost $45 per quarter.
